This week on Family Kitchen, Michelle and her two assistants teach us how to make butter right at home with a little bit of magic! Michelle even shows us how to form the butter into custom shapes with cookie cutters.
HOW TO MAKE BUTTER
BUTTER
MAKES 1/2 CUP
Ingredients
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Preparation
- Pour the heavy cream into a blender and blend on medium-high speed for 5-7 minutes.
- The cream will become whipped cream and will separate into buttercream and butter.
- Before removing it from the blender, pour out as much buttermilk as possible to separate it from the butter.
- Wash any remaining buttermilk so the butter stays fresh longer. Then put the butter in a bowl of ice-cold water.
- Squeeze and knead the butter to release the buttermilk.
- Continue changing the water until the water is clear. This takes about 5 changes of water.
- Pat your butter dry with a clean dish towel.
- Add 1/8 teaspoon of salt to the butter in a bowl.
- Put the butter on partchment paper and form into sticks or use cookie cutters to make fun shapes.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
