SYRACUSE, NYJUNE 18, 2024 — Today American Dairy Association North East and the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program announced the results of their first honorary Chief Ice Cream Officer (CIO) search. Two lucky DC residents will spend National Ice Cream Month (July) on the road sampling farm fresh ice cream at local creameries across Pennsylvania – sharing their experience on social media along the way.

The DC duo, friends Maddie Smith and Mia Svirsky, share a love of ice cream and travel. Maddie creates food and travel content for multiple clients and her own Instagram account @onthemovewithmad. Mia manages her own DC-based food account @districteats and works with area restaurants to help them grow their social platforms.

The two were chosen from submissions from ice cream lovers across the northeast. The announcement was made this morning with a post featuring the friends on American Dairy Association North East’s Instagram account.

Pennsylvania’s approximately 5,000 family dairy farms produce nearly 10 billion pounds of milk annually, and a good amount of that milk goes into making delicious, sweet ice cream. “The goal of the road trip is to spotlight the amazing family dairy farms in Pennsylvania and promote that many of them make farm fresh, local ice cream on site,” says John Chrisman, American Dairy Association North East CEO. “This is an incredible way to celebrate National Ice Cream Month (July) and encourage people to follow the journey to learn about Pennsylvania’s dairy farms.”

The honorary CIOs will visit 18 creameries, taste ice cream and create social media content highlighting Pennsylvania’s family dairy farms and the sweet treats they make.
